The Shouters are direct descendants of the “Ring Shout” and have been performing it their entire lives. The Shouters’ mission is to preserve and protect the rich Gullah Geechee heritage by educating audiences young and old about the “Ring Shout” and life during slavery. The Shouters believe that through the telling of stories and performing, the memories and the rich heritage are kept alive.

The McIntosh County Shouters are revered by educators, ethnomusicologists, and historians in the United States and around the world. They are recipients of numerous honors and awards.

Supported by the Boulder Arts Commission, the City of Boulder Human Relations Commission, and Macky Auditorium.
